No more tweeting for the Spanish

A notable feature of both Spain’s 2008 European Championship victory and their 2010 World Cup victory was the laissez-faire attitude of the training camp. While training hard and focussing on the important task ahead, both Luis Aragonés and Vicente del Bosque took quite liberal views on what their charges were doing in their spare time away from the training pitch. In Austria in 2008 the players were allowed the occasional day out with families and girlfriends and Aragonés even consented to a night out at a local disco, which even he himself took part in.

When asked about a picture of Spanish defender, Sergio Ramos at the previously mentioned nightclub he laughed it off saying: "Your photographer hasn't done very well there ? I was up dancing and you didn't get a picture of me!”

In South Africa, midfielder Andrés Iniesta would frequently saunter down to the nearby shopping centre to pick up DVDs and CDs to take his mind of football matters.

Del Bosque also allowed his troops two pre-arranged nights out on the town, in Cape Town and Durban, after defeating Portugal and Germany in the first knockout game and the semi-final respectively.

However, in Gniewino (the Spanish training camp) and indeed for the entire time that La Roja are competing in the tournament, del Bosque has decided to put a ban on what is turning out to be the nemesis of many managers around the world: Twitter. It can only be presumed that team unity and avoiding the unnecessary controversy that comes with footballers using the social networking site is the reason behind the decision.

Fernando Llorente bid farewell to his followers this weekend with the Tweet: "Here's a picture of Sevilla, with which I say farewell for the tournament because we're not allowed Twitter in the training camp".
