AS Monaco secures loan for German defender Thilo Kehrer from West Ham
AS Monaco have officially announced the loan signing of Thilo Kehrer, a 27-year-old German international defender, from West Ham United Football Club. The deal lasts until the season's end and includes an option to buy.
Kehrer is familiar with Ligue 1, having spent four seasons with Paris SG from 2018 to 2022.
Starting his career at FC Schalke 04, Kehrer joined the club in 2012. He led the youth teams to a German Under-19 championship in 2015 and made his Bundesliga debut against Wolfsburg in February 2016.
Known for his versatility in defense, Kehrer was pivotal in Schalke's second-place Bundesliga finish in the 2017-2018 season, playing alongside teammate Breel Embolo.
Kehrer's standout performances in Germany caught the attention of Paris Saint-Germain, leading to his transfer in 2018.
Under Thomas Tuchel, he quickly adapted to PSG's system and made his Champions League debut in a 6-1 victory over Red Star Belgrade. Kehrer featured in approximately 20 European matches, including the 2020 Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
During his time with PSG, Kehrer made 128 appearances, winning three Ligue 1 championships (2019, 2020, 2022), two Coupe de France titles (2020, 2021), the Coupe de la Ligue (2020), and the Trophée des champions (2019).
After his tenure with PSG, Kehrer joined West Ham in the summer of 2022. He was integral to the team's success in the UEFA Europa League, helping them claim their first European title since 1965.
Kehrer has been a regular in the German national youth teams, winning the European Under-21 Championship in 2017. He earned his first call-up to Germany's senior team in September 2018 and participated in the 2022 World Cup.
At AS Monaco, Kehrer will wear the number 5.
