24-year-old midfielder Mason Mount has transferred from Chelsea to Manchester United in a deal worth an initial £55m, with the possibility of £5m in add-ons.

This marks Erik ten Hag's first signing of the summer. Mount has signed a contract that will see him play for Manchester United until June 2028, with an option to extend for a further year.

Having accrued 279 club appearances, scoring 58 goals and contributing 53 assists, Mount's acquisition is a significant addition to Manchester United's squad.

The Champions League winner was Chelsea’s Player of the Year for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, adding to his commendable profile.

In addition to his achievements at the club level, Mount has earned 36 caps for England and played a pivotal role in the country's run to the European Championship final in 2021.

Regarding the transfer, Mount expressed excitement and readiness for the challenge ahead at Manchester United.

He said, “It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies."

He also praised Manchester United's progression under manager Erik ten Hag.

"Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here."

John Murtough, Manchester United's football director, welcomed Mount to the club, stating, "Mason is an extremely intelligent footballer and has so many fantastic technical qualities that will significantly add to our squad. His style of play and attributes are a perfect fit for this squad, and we all believe that he will only improve further by working with Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff."
