Republic of Ireland international Claire O’Riordan has departed Celtic after a solitary campaign with the Glasgow club.

The Limerick native has parted company with the Hoops, who finished second behind local rivals Glasgow City last season, ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

O’Riordan, 28, has been selected in Vera Pauw’s squad for this month’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and will look to use the tournament as an audition for higher-level clubs.

And after an eye-catching performance in the 3-2 friendly win over Zambia last month, the former Wexford Youths and Duisburg player will hope to work her way into the starting XI.

O’Riordan has played all across the back five for Pauw’s side and finished the Zambia game after a late knock forced Megan Connolly - who is also unattached - into defence.

Celtic announced her departure alongside that of team-mates Tash Flint, Jacynta Galabadaarachchi, Liv Fergusson and Taylor Otto.

The Ghirls, who drew Brondby in the opening round of the Champions League, also announced the return of former player Collette Cavanagh on a two-year deal.

O’Riordan wrote on Instagram: “Thank you Celtic for an unforgettable season for my family and I. Together, we have created memories to cherish forever.

“Honoured to have played for this club and the best fans. Wishing you all the best for the season ahead. I will be yer biggest fan. I hope we see each other again. Hail hail.”

Ireland face France in their final World Cup warm-up match on Thursday, July 6, before travelling to Australia, where they face the hosts in the opening match on July 20.
