Champions League Wrap: Icelandic side Breidablik book tie against Shamrock Rovers
While Shamrock Rovers were going down to a 2-0 defeat away to Dundalk, Icelandic champions Breidabli won the Champions League preliminary round final to book their place in the First Qualifying Round where they will face the League of Ireland champions.
Hoops Head Coach Stephen Bradley and Sporting Director Stephen McPhail had travelled to Iceland to watch Tuesday’s one legged semi-finals that saw Montenegrin outfit Budućnost Podgorica and Breidablik progress to Friday’s final.
The Icelandic team thumped San Marino side Tre Penne 7-1 in the semi-final and then defeated Budućnost Podgorica 5-0 in Kópavogsvöllur-Kopavogur to earn their place in the first qualifying round.
Shamrock Rovers have confirmed that they will play the first leg of their first qualifying round in Tallaght on Tuesday 11 July with the away leg in Iceland on Tuesday 18 July.
