Meadow Lane is set to witness a homecoming as the academy graduate David McGoldrick signs a two-year contract with Notts County.

McGoldrick, 35, is returning to his roots following a remarkable run in the 2022-23 season at Derby County where he netted 25 goals and secured the titles of both Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Season.

Though he had an opportunity to extend his tenure at Pride Park, McGoldrick chose to honour his long-standing desire of rejoining his boyhood club, Notts County.

His decision to return has been met with immense joy and anticipation from the club's board of directors and head coach Luke Williams.

The club statement quoted, “We’re over the moon to welcome someone of David’s immense quality and experience. David’s an incredibly intelligent and intricate footballer who also boasts tremendous physicality...His love and respect for the club have brought him home."

Nottingham-born McGoldrick made his senior debut at Notts County at the young age of 16.

After several appearances, he moved to then-Premier League side Southampton, and his career later took him to Nottingham Forest and then Sheffield United.

His stint with Sheffield United saw him help the club ascend to the Premier League, even winning the Fans’ Player of the Season award.

Following his impactful contribution at Sheffield United, he was signed by Derby County who offered him a one-year contract last summer.

Proving to be a valuable asset, he scored 22 goals in League One, including three hat-tricks.

McGoldrick also has 14 caps for the Republic of Ireland to his name. His notable performances on the international stage led to him being voted as the FAI’s Senior International Player of the Year in 2020.
