Josh Neufville bolsters AFC Wimbledon's squad ahead of new season
AFC Wimbledon have announced the signing of Josh Neufville from Luton Town.
Predominantly a winger, Neufville will officially become a Wimbledon player on a two-year contract from 1 July, after his contract with the newly promoted Premier League club expires.
AFC Wimbledon's Head of Football Operations, Craig Cope, expressed his delight at acquiring Neufville, a player he has previously worked with.
“We were going through a tricky situation at the time and Josh did very well for us for a month to eight weeks," Cope shared. "It’s been a great start to business for us and I believe that Josh is really going to suit what we’re trying to do here.”
The signing of Neufville is the club's second summer arrival, following the return of Jake Reeves, who played a key role in securing promotion in his last spell at Wimbledon.
Born in Luton, Neufville started his career with local Bedfordshire club, Crawley Green, before joining Luton's youth system in 2011.
Since then, he's gained experience with loan spells at Solihull Moors, Woking, and Yeovil Town, where he worked with Wimbledon's Assistant Manager, Terry Skiverton.
Neufville expressed his excitement at becoming a Wimbledon player, highlighting the club's history and his connection with the management team as decisive factors.
“I met with Johnnie Jackson and within the first 10 minutes, I knew that this is where I wanted to be," said Neufville. "Everything about the club, especially the history, appealed to me a lot."
Asked about his playing style, Neufville said: “I can play in a few different positions - basically wherever I’m told to play to help out the team. My strongest attributes are that I’m powerful, pacy, athletic and with a lot of energy."
Neufville, who gained valuable experience on loan at Sutton United last season, is eager to work with Skiverton again, acknowledging the assistant manager's significant influence on his career.
"He helped me on and off the pitch, with things like recovery, what to look at, and who to be around to improve my game. On the pitch, he helped me with my positional play, even though he was a centre-half. He was a big influence on me coming here."
