Lucy Quinn added to Ireland squad for USA double header

Vera Pauw has called up Birmingham City player Lucy Quinn to her squad for the upcoming friendly matches against the United States.

Quinn has joined in place of Lily Agg who picked up an injury ahead of joining the Ireland camp. Quinn, who made her international debut against Australia in 2021, has three international goals to her name from a dozen international appearances.

The current squad includes for the first time Lewes goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse, Peamount United defender Tara O’Hanlon and Shamrock Rovers forward Alannah McEvoy.

After the recent injury scare following her substitution in Arsenal's Champions Cup tie last week, Ireland skipper Katie McCabe made a scoring return for the Gunners on Sunday and has travelled out to America with the Ireland squad.

Ireland fly out on Monday without a number of players who were ruled out due to Injury including out Niamh Fahey, Chloe Mustaki, Ellen Molloy, Jess Ziu and Leanne Kiernan, while Megan Campbell is unavailable.

The FAI noted that ‘All players went through a recovery session on Monday morning ahead of flying to the United States following on from a game for Home-Based players on Sunday against a boys team’.

The Girls in Green will take on number one ranked team in the world next Saturday in Austin Texas and again on Tuesday 11 April in St Louis.

This double header is the first meeting with the United States since August 2019 when the teams met in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The home side ran out 3-0 winners in front of 37,040 spectators.
