Extratime.ie Sportscast - Japan/South Korea 2002 World Cup - Big Mick's Pinnacle (Part 2)

In contrast to Mick McCarthy's most recent spell in charge, the 2002 World Cup was a time of the most exhilarating, enjoyable and entertaining football we've seen from an Irish team for many years.

It was also a time of 'The Losers Go Home' Nike ad, Après Match at the peak of their hilarity and the travelling fans' numbers bolstered by the Celtic Tiger as host Declan Marron and senior reporter Macdara Ferris (who travelled to Japan and Korea for the tournament) recall.

The lads relive the Irish games discussing the joy of Robbie Keane's late goals, Dec's hatred for Carsten Janker, a tired and emotional Dunphy mentioning Swastikas on the radio and the heartbreak of going out to Spain in a manky penalty shoot-out - it seems Macdara is still raw about Kevin Kilbane's rebound miss in the match against Spain.

And although they mostly swerve Saipan, there is a little chat right at the end on it's lasting legacy for both parties and whether Roy and Mick will meet again.
