Dublin GAA star Stephen Cluxton added to Shelbourne's all-star fundraiser for Beaumont Hospital in November

Dublin GAA legend Stephen Cluxton is the latest star from the world of sport to join the all-star side to face a Shelbourne XI in a fundraiser for the Beamont Hospital Foundation in November.

The goalkeeper joins his intercounty teammates Jack McCaffrey and Alan Brogan in a side packed with current and former footballers and other sportspeople for the game at Tolka Park on November 14th.

Legends of Irish football from Damien Duff and John O’Shea to Stephanie Roche and Glen Crowe, as well as boxer Kellie Harrington and rugby star Garry Ringrose, will also take part.

Current Shelbourne players Ciara Grant, Niamh McLaughlin and Kate Mooney are currently working on the frontlines in the fight against coronavirus.

Former Shels players Siobhan Killeen, now an All-Ireland winner with Dublin, is also working on the frontlines along with DLR Waves players Róisín McGovern and Catherine Cronin.

Tickets for the game are on sale now from the Shelbourne website.

“Over the past number of weeks we have all been watching the news and seen the extraordinary work our frontline workers put themselves through every day,” said Shels men’s boss Ian Morris.

“Literally putting themselves on the line for us. This pandemic has really hit home how vulnerable we can be.

“If we, or our family members fall ill, we want to know we will have the best healthcare workers, working in the best facilities, with the best equipment to keep us all healthy and safe.

“Organising this game to try and raise money will hopefully provide some much needed funds to help.

“Everyone who we have contacted has been absolutely fantastic. No hesitation just a response of: “how can I help”, which is amazing.

“The Beaumont Foundation, with the Beaumont Heroes appeal is only a stones throw from Shelbourne FC.

“All the proceeds will go there to try and help. I hope we can get huge momentum behind us to try raise as much money to help our frontline heroes.”
