Wes Hoolahan to wear the red of Shelbourne once more for November Beaumont Hospital fundraiser

Wes Hoolahan will don the red shirt of Shelbourne once more, 15 years after leaving the club, in a fundraising game in support of the Beaumont Hospital Foundation in November.

‘Wessi,' who lines out for Newcastle Jets in Australia, will take to the field alongside Shelbourne legends such as Tony Sherridan, Dave Rogers and current Ireland under-21 boss Jim Crawford to take on an all-star XI.

Former internationals including Damien Duff, Niall Quinn and Keith Andrews will line out for the all-stars, while rugby player Garry Ringrose and GAA stars Alan Brogan, Jack McCaffrey and Joe Brolly will also feature.

Other famous names set to feature include John O’Shea, current international Stephanie Roche, world champions boxer Kellie Harrington and former Liverpool defender Stig-Inge Bjornebye.

All funds will go to support the work of the Beaumont Hospital Foundation as part of its Beaumont Heroes Appeal, which brings comforts to healthcare staff working 24/7 on the frontline.

These includes three members of the Shelbourne Women’s National League squad: Ciara Grant, Niamh McLaughlin and Kate Mooney are fighting Covid-19 on the frontline.

Ex-player Siobhan Killeen recently revealed she had been diagnosed with Covid-19 while working as a diagnostic radiologist in the Mater.

“Over the past number of weeks we have all been watching the news and seen the extraordinary work our frontline workers put themselves through every day,” said Shelbourne men’s boss Ian Morris.

“Literally putting themselves on the line for us. This pandemic has really hit home how vulnerable we can be.

“If we, or our family members fall ill, we want to know we will have the best healthcare workers, working in the best facilities, with the best equipment to keep us all healthy and safe.

“Organising this game to try and raise money will hopefully provide some much needed funds to help.

“Everyone who we have contacted has been absolutely fantastic. No hesitation just a response of: “how can I help”, which is amazing.

“The Beaumont Foundation, with the Beaumont Heroes appeal is only a stones throw from Shelbourne FC.

“All the proceeds will go there to try and help. I hope we can get huge momentum behind us to try raise as much money to help our frontline heroes”

A Beaumont Hospital spokesperson added: “We were delighted to be contacted by Ian Morris, Manager of Shelbourne Football Club to advise us of his plan to organise a charity football match (in the post Covid-19 world) in aid of the Beaumont Hospital Foundation.

“This is great news from our point of view and will be doing all that we can to support Ian in his endeavour. I hope you can do the same and thank you in advance for your support.”
