Darragh Burns pens two-year professional deal with the Saints

St Patrick’s Athletic youngster Darragh Burns has signed a two-year professional contract with the club ahead of the start of the 2020 season.

Burns made his Saints first-team debut against Chelsea in July, as Frank Lampard’s Blues eased to a four-nil win.

The 17 year old joined the club’s under-17 Academy team in 2018 and can play for their under-19 side for two more years.

He has represented Northern Ireland at under-17 and under-19 level, scoring two goals in nine appearances.

“I’m delighted to be given a pro contract by both Ger (O’Brien) and Stephen (O’Donnell),” Burns said to his club’s media team.

“I’m taking that as a compliment and I want to kick on in the next two years, improve my game and try and be a regular in the first team.

“We won the under-17 League of Ireland this year and we also won the Leinster Senior Cup with the under-19s so I’m looking forward to what the future can bring.

“When I signed for the club, I was told there was a pathway there and you just have to work hard. Even if you’re not the best out there, just give 100% effort and you will get your opportunity.

“It’s a good club to try and break into the first-team and they will give you an opportunity if you give it your all week in week out.”
