First Division Athlone begin off-season recruitment drive with three new recruits

First Division Athlone Town have announced their first signings ahead of the 2020 First Division season.

Galway United duo Ronan Asgari and Joshua Keane Quinlivan, along with Irish Defence Forces international Scott Delaney have all signed for the Midlands club.

Asgari and Keane Quinlivan were also part of the Galway United Under 19 side that reached the League Final in 2019 where they faced Waterford.

Both players played in the final with Keane Quinlivan getting on the scoresheet but it would not be enough with Waterford going on to win 3-1 on the night to claim the title.

They also got a taste of first team football last season under Alan Murphy with Asgari lining out against his new club in the first round of the EA Sports Cup with The Tribesmen coming out on top after extra time.

Keane Quinlivan made his first team debut in June of last year when he came on as a substitute against Longford Town. The midfielder went on to make several appearances for the senior team before the season’s conclusion.

Delaney most recently played for Willow Park of the Leinster Senior League. His time with the Irish Defence Forces international team saw him reach the quarter finals with the side at the World Military Games last year.

The centre back also played for Tullamore Town during the 2010 A Championship season.

The Town kick off their new season against Galway United in Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday 21 February (kick-off 7.45pm).
