Former Ireland international Andy Keogh joins Indian Super League outfit NorthEast United

Indian Super League side NorthEast United have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland international Andy Keogh.

The 32-year-old moves to India having most recently lined out for Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia.

The Dubliner began his career as part of Leeds United’s academy before having a lengthy spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers where he won the English Championship and played in the Premier League.

Loan spells at Cardiff, Blackpool and a return to Leeds followed, signalling the end of his time at Molineux when he would ultimately sign for Millwall in January 2012.

He was released by Millwall in 2014 and moved to Perth Glory of Australia’s A-League, Keogh remained with the club until 2019 not including the brief spell with Ratchaburi of the Thai Premier League after Glory breached the salary cap rules.

Keogh was an integral part of the A-League winning side in the 2018/19 season when he scored 15 goals in 26 appearances.

The striker is now following in the footsteps of fellow Irishman Robbie Keane who finished his career in the Indian Super League playing for ATK.

Keane also spent a brief spell as player manager of ATK and scored against Keogh’s new club on his managerial debut.

Keogh could also face off against former Republic of Ireland under-21 international Carl McHugh when NorthEast United and ATK meet on 27th January.
