Former St Francis youngster Joshua Kayode signs contract extension with League One Rotherham

Former St Francis player Joshua Kayode has signed a contract extension with League One side Rotherham Untied.

The deal will see the Nigerian born Dubliner remain with The Millers until 2022.

Kayode got his first taste of first team football since leaving Ireland in 2017 with loan spells at Chesterfield in 2018 and spending the first half of the 2019/2020 season with National League North side Gateshead.

The 19-year-old impressed while on Tyneside where he netted 9 times in 27 appearances.

He will link up with manager Paul Warne’s first team squad at the New York Stadium.

"I've pulled JJ back to train with us for the next couple of days and we can have a look at him,” the manager said, speaking to the club’s website.

“Because he's been at the level that he's been out on loan, potentially he could play for us and it wouldn't affect him going back out on loan.

"I want to have a look at him in the group because although we think he has done really well and improved, we want to see him with our players, and we can really see how far he has come.”
