Doherty and Farren promoted from Harps under-19s to senior set-up

Finn Harps have confirmed that both Stephen Doherty and Kieran Farren have been promoted to the senior side from the club’s under-19s outfit.

Both featured in first team squads last season – with manager Ollie Horgan keen to keep a hold of his two young stars ahead of the 2020 campaign.

“I am delighted to have Kieran and Stephen aboard for 2020,” Horgan told his club’s media team

“It's a savage league and with Shels coming up it will probably be even harder again next season.  It's up to the two lads to work hard and show what they can do as the year progresses.”

And after signing, Doherty noted his delight upon signing on linking up with the senior side for 2020.

“From the day you first sign for the club your aim is to step up and sign for the first team.

“It's just about getting in for preseason and trying to prove a point and hopefully play as many games as possible and help the team out.”

And his fellow underage teammate Farren added; “It feels great to sign for the season ahead.  I'm looking forward to getting in for preseason, start well and hopefully get a good preseason under my belt.

“Since I came into the club everyone has been welcoming so I am glad to remain for another year.

“I want to play as much as possible, but I know it's going to be tough; I need to work hard and get a good preseason done and take it from there."

The Head of Finn Harps’ Academy Kevin McHugh added; “We are delighted to see the boys step up to the first team squad for 2020.

“At the Harps Academy we focus on developing players and seeing Kieran and Stephen progress like this is great to see.

“It shows the players in the underage squads that the pathway is there, and although it isn't easy, they can make it through to the Harps senior side.”
