Paul O'Conor announces retirement from League of Ireland football

Paul O’Conor has announced his retirement from the League of Ireland after ten years.

O’Conor began his career at UCD first stepping into the first team in 2010, but it wasn’t until 2011 that he became a key part of Martin Russell’s squad. In 2012, the midfielder left to play for Mick Cooke in Drogheda. The highlight of his time in Louth was reaching the 2013 FAI Cup Final, before they ultimately lost out to Sligo Rovers.

Days later O’Conor would sign for the Bit o’Red ahead of the 2014 season, where he would go on to make 28 appearances, scoring five times.

His former boss Martin Russell – then at Limerick – would bring O’Conor to the Blues in 2015, somewhere he would stay until midway through the 2017 season after his transfer listing. A short stop at Pats would follow before he moved to Bray Wanderers for 2018. The versatile player concluded his career at Longford Town with his last game coming in the agonising play-off defeat to Cabinteely with a penalty miss in the shoot-out being his last act.
