Derek Prendergast departs Shels to join Tim Clancy's Drogheda

Drogheda United have confirmed the signing of defender Derek Prendergast ahead of the 2020 First Division campaign.

Prendergast returns to the Boynesiders having departed the club after the conclusion of the 2013 campaign.

After leaving the Drogs in 2013, Prendergast joined Athlone Town who were managed by Mick Cooke at the time.

From there he made the move to Bohemians ahead of the 2015 campaign, where he enjoyed a two-year stint at Dalymount Park.

The 34-year-old left the Gypsies at the end of the 2016 season, as he joined Shelbourne before the start of the 2017 campaign.

While at the Reds, Prendergast won two Leinster Senior Cups and a First Division league crown in 2019.

The Dubliner joins Tim Clancy’s Drogheda United squad as their tenth signing of the off-season.

Elsewhere, Paul Skinner has left the club in recent days to take up a position as Shelbourne’s new goalkeeping coach.
