Brown and Wixted re-sign for Drogheda after playoff heartbreak

Drogheda United have announced the re-signing of Adam Wixted and James Brown for their 2020 First Division campaign.

Wixted is in his third stint with Drogheda and he has made 73 appearances for the club over the course of his career.

The midfielder made just 12 appearances this past season due to a serious shoulder injury picked up last March away to Limerick.

Wixted told his club’s media team; It was an easy decision for me. After a tough season of being injured with my shoulder, I have a lot more to give and I just want to give something back to the club and everyone in it for being great with me, getting me through my injury and back on the pitch towards the end of the season.

“I can’t wait to get going again as it felt like my season was only getting started. We fell at the final hurdle against Finn Harps and I feel even more determined to go that one step further next season.”

Brown began his career with Shelbourne, but the right back joined up with Tim Clancy’s squad for the 2019 season and made 30 appearances in all competitions this season.

The Boynesiders made it all the way to the promotion playoff final against Finn Harps this season, eventually losing out 2-1 on aggregate to Ollie Horgan’s men.

Tim Clancy’s squad for next season is up to three with Drogheda’s top scorer Chris Lyons signing on for 2020 last month.
