Michael McDonnell extends Longford stay as preparations ramp up ahead of 2020

First Division Longford Town have confirmed that central defender Michael McDonnell has re-signed for the club ahead of the 2020 campaign.

Longford Town have been busy in recent days, with Sam Verdon, James English, Aodh Dervin and Shane Elworthy all re-signing.

The re-acquisition of McDonnell is Daire Doyle’s 11th signing of the off-season, with the former assistant to Neale Fenn acting quick to re-sign his stars of last year.

McDonnell joined Longford from Newbridge Town ahead of the 2018 campaign, where he has since gone on to establish himself as a key member of Longford’s starting XI.

During the 2019 season, the former Leinster Senior League made 29 league appearances for De Town.

The central defender also scored once for the Red and Black in 2019 – a superb header at home to Bray Wanderers in a dominant 2-0 home win.

The 27-year-old played a key role in an impressive defence for Longford this term, only conceding 23 goals in the league.

McDonnell made his debut for Longford in 2018 in a 2-2 home draw against Cobh Ramblers. The Dubliner has scored just the once for Longford so far.
