Watch: Cabinteely and Drogheda play out draw at Stradbrook in first-leg of promotion playoff

Cabinteely and Drogheda United have played out a one-all draw in the first leg of their promotion playoff at Stradbrook.

With no away goals counting, the second leg at United Park is shaping up to be a winner takes all finale, with the winner facing Finn Harps in the promotion/relegation playoff final.

The Green and White’s took an early lead through former Shamrock Rovers star Kieran ‘Marty’ Waters – who fired home a rasping drive in just the 5th minute.

Waters picked up the ball outside the area, before arrowing his effort into the top corner, leaving Drogs keeper Luca Gratzer with no chance.

However, the Boynesiders soon rallied and ought to have levelled through Mark Doyle who got on the end of a delightful Adam Wixted.

Despite rounding Stephen McGuinness in the Cabinteely goal, Doyle’s effort was thwarted by a superb goal-line clearance by Daniel Blackbyrne.

Tim Clancy’s side were not to be denied as the game wore on, as Jake Hyland stepped up with a fierce finish to leave the scoreline all square heading into next week’s showdown at United Park.
