Tim Howard retires from football after a 22-year long career

Former Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has retired after making his final professional appearance last weekend.

The 40-year-old made his last professional appearance for Colorado Rapids in the MLS against LA FC.

Despite the occasion, Howard was unable to see his side secure victory, as the Rapids fell to a 3-1 defeat in the Western Conference.   

The American, who made 339 Premier League appearances while at Old Trafford, won both the FA Cup and Carling Cup during his stint with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Howard soon made the move to Everton on loan from the Red Devils in 2006 – making the move permanent the following year.

He played 413 times for the Toffees in all competitions over a memorable ten-year stint at Goodison Park.

In addition, the shot-stopper won 121 caps for the USA and played at two World Cups in 2010 and 2014 for the Stars and Stripes.
