Colin McCabe extends Shelbourne stay after title-winning campaign at Tolka Park

First Division champions Shelbourne have confirmed that goalkeeper Colin McCabe will remain at the club for their return to the Premier Division next term.

The Reds were promoted to the top-flight with a game to spare after they defeated Drogheda United at United Park on the penultimate night of the season.

McCabe, once of Glasgow Celtic, played a key role in helping Shels over the line – coming in for legendary former first choice Dean Delany after a difficult start to the year for Ian Morris’ side.

The former Bohemians second choice made 21 appearances for the Reds this term – only conceding ten goals while he was between the sticks.

Confirmation of the Cavan native’s contract extension comes days after the club’s title celebrations were rounded off on Saturday evening.

Shels ran out comfortable 7-0 winners in the end on Saturday night, with Jaze Kabia netting a hat-trick.

Oscar Brennan, Conan Byrne, Shane Farrell and Aidan Friel also got on the scoresheet for a rampant Richmond Road outfit who added the gloss to a memorable campaign in style.

The re-signing of McCabe comes days after the news that fellow highly-rated youngster Farrell will also remain at the club for next year.

22 year old McCabe has signed a deal that will keep at the club until the end of the 2020 season – the Reds first in the Premier Division since 2013.
