First Division Round-up: Shels cap off title-winning campaign in style as Drogheda falter in Bray

Shelbourne put the gloss on their First Division winning campaign with style as they stuck seven goals past a woeful Limerick at Tolka Park on Saturday evening.

Drogheda United were also dealt a heavy defeat at the Carlisle Grounds, with a much-changed Drogs falling to a 4-1 loss against Gary Cronin’s Bray Wanderers.

Longford Town also secured third spot with a hard-fought win away to Cobh, while Cabinteely reached a record breaking tally of 50 points with a win away to Wexford.

In the other game of the night, there was some late drama at Lissywoolen as Galway United came back from the brink to secure a point away to Athlone.

1,647 were in attendance at Tolka Park to see the Reds lift the First Division trophyhaving sealed the deal away to Drogheda United last week.

Jaze Kabia scored a hat-trick to set the tone for Ian Morris’ title-winners. Oscar Brennan also grabbed his fourth league goal of the season with a well-taken second half-strike.

Dean Delany also brought the curtain down on an illustrious 23-year career as he lifted the trophy with Shelbourne supporters' player of the year Lorcan Fitzgerald at the end of the night.

After the disappointment of last week at United Park, Tim Clancy’s Drogs were unable to shrug of their defeat with another loss away to Bray Wanderers.

Dean Williams opened the scoring for the Seagulls on the sixth minute from the penalty spot, before Dylan McGlade made it two on the half-hour mark.

Williams then made it three just before the break before the Boynesiders notched a consolation through Chris Lyons who scored his 12th league goal of the year in the second half.



Former Longford Town winger McGlade then added the gloss to the win late on with a deft finish over the onrushing Paul Skinner.

A brace from Adam Evans saw Longford Town secure a hard-fought win away to Cobh Ramblers in testing conditions on the South Coast.

Cian Leonard levelled for the hosts via the penalty spot after Evans early strike, before Dean Byrne retook the lead for Town who sealed third place with a 3-1 win in the second half.

Cabinteely’s Yuta Sasaki scored a late winner for Pat Devlin’s promotion hunters away to Cabinteely after Conor English cancelled out Ronan O’Kelly’s opener.

The Green and Whites win against the Slaneysiders resulted in the club reaching a club record tally of 50 points.

Meanwhile, Galway United left it late to seal a point away to Athlone Town – with Killian Brouder scoring late to seal a point for the Tribesmen.



Conor Melody gave the visitors an early lead before Athlone roared back into the game with a brace from Kealan Dillon. Brouder then scored a last minute equaliser for Alan Murphy’s side.
