FAI Cup midlands derby postponed and rescheduled due to waterlogged pitch

The FAI Cup first round tie between Longford Town and Athlone Town, which was scheduled for Saturday night, has been postponed and rescheduled following a pitch inspection.

The game between the midlands rivals will now take place on Tuesday, August 13th at City Calling Stadium with a kick-off time of 7.45pm.

Heavy rain overnight and throughout Saturday morning in Longford led to a waterlogged pitch and, with no sign of respite, referee Eoghan O’Shea took the decision to postpone just before midday.

It was to be the second meeting between the sides in eight days after promotion-chasing Longford dealt a 5-1 defeat to Terry Butler’s side in Lissywollen last Friday.

Three FAI Cup games will go ahead as scheduled, with St Michael’s hosting Glengad United at 3pm, Crumlin United at home to Malahide United at 6pm and Cobh Ramblers versus Dundalk at 7pm.
