Former Derry City winger Rory Holden joins Walsall on season long loan

Recently relegated Walsall have announced the signing Northern Ireland under-21 international Rory Holden on a season long loan.

The winger had been on trial with the Saddlers and moves from English Championship club Bristol City for the 2019/2020 League Two season.

The 21-year-old began his career with Derry City where he made 16 appearances before making the move to Bristol City on transfer deadline day in August 2017.

Since then he has had loan spells with Barrow in the National League, and Rochdale in League One.

“I’m buzzing to be here and to finally get the move over the line,” Holden revealed speaking to the club’s website.

“It is the perfect time for me to come out on loan to help me develop as a player.

“The manager wants me to go out on the pitch and just express myself, gain some experience in the Football League and to try and excite the fans.”

Holden could make his debut when Walsall begin their League Two campaign on Saturday 3rd August away to Northampton (kick off 3pm).
