Stephen Christopher departs Cobh Ramblers ahead of First Division run-in

Midfielder Stephen Christopher has confirmed his departure from Cobh Ramblers after a five-year stint with the club.

Christopher joined the Rams in the 2014 season, joining as an under-19 player before making his senior debut with the club in July 2015 against UCD.

The 23-year-old then scored his first Ramblers goal a month later against Waterford United.

The attacking midfielder became a mainstay in Stephen Henderson’s side during the 2016 campaign as he made 24 appearances for the club.

The Cork native also played a role in the First Division playoff defeat to Drogheda United at the end of the 2016 season at St Colman’s Park.

The midfielder continued to impress for the Rams in the 2017 campaign where he helped Henderson’s charges to an unlikely 2nd placed finish, coming just behind Waterford.

Christopher joins attacking duo Jaze Kabia and Denzil Fernandes is heading for the exit door at St Colman’s Park in recent weeks.

The midfielder’s final game for the Rams took place on Saturday evening during the one-all draw at home to Wexford.

The 23-year-old came on as an 83rd minute substitute but he was unable to help his side find a late winner against the First Division’s basement side.
