Longford Town unveil capture of Jack Doherty from Wexford

First Division title chasers Longford Town have confirmed the capture of attacking midfielder Jack Doherty.

Doherty's departure from Wexford was confirmed on Friday morning and Longford were quickest to act in securing his signature until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old returns to the City Calling Stadium having had a stint with the club before during the 2015 campaign.

Speaking to Longford Town's media team, the former Ipswich Town youngster revealed his there was plenty of other suitors vying for his name.

“There were other clubs interested in signing me, but I felt after speaking to Neale that Longford was the right place to come to.

“Obviously I loved my time at Wexford. They've done everything for me, and I'll be forever grateful.

"I just want to keep going where I left off from Wexford and bring that with me to Longford and my main goal is to try and go on and win the league with the team."

Doherty and fellow new signing Dylan Grimes will both go into the Longford Town squad ahead of this evening's trip to Limerick. Kick off at the Markets Field this evening is at 7.45pm
