Connor Ellis departs Limerick by mutual consent

22-year-old striker Connor Ellis has confirmed that he has left First Division promotion contenders Limerick by mutual consent.

The former Cork City striker departs the Blues having scored six goals for the club so far this term, leading Tommy Barrett’s side to an unlikely fourth-place spot.

While at the Markets Field, the dynamic frontman made 41 appearances for the club with eight goals to his name.

Commenting on his social media account, Ellis cited the wage situation as his reasoning for departing the club.

“After much deliberation, I have decided to part ways with Limerick FC, the ex-Cobh Ramblers forward said.

“I would like to thank Tommy (Barrett), Dave and the rest of the staff, as well as all the players. They really are a great bunch.

“Unfortunately, despite taking a pay cut in pre-season to help the club, the club has consistently failed to pay my wages and my rent allowance on time leaving me with significant financial strain.

“I would like to thank the fans for everything all year and your support through thick and thin. It didn’t go unnoticed.

"It’s been a pleasure to represent Limerick and I wish Tommy and all the lads every success for the rest of the season."

Limerick sit fourth in the First Division league table, eight points off leaders Shelbourne, who are their next opponents on Friday evening. Kick-off is at 7:45 PM at the Markets Field.
