Midfielder Eóghan Morgan joins USL side Reading United from Athlone Town

Midfielder Eóghan Morgan has signed for United Soccer League side Reading United after parting company with First Division side Athlone Town.

The former Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians and Cabinteely player joins the Pennsylvania-based club, who are top of the Mid Atlantic Division of the North American fourth tier’s Eastern Conference.

Morgan will play under the tutelage of the former St Patrick’s Athletic midfielder Alan McCann, who assumed the reins at Reading in February 2018 after a spell as assistant coach.

Dubliner Morgan played youth football with St Kevin’s Boys and Bohemians before join the youth set-up at Shamrock Rovers in 2015.

He made his first-team debut for the Hoops in the Leinster Senior Cup final against Dundalk in 2015 and left at the end of the following season.

Following one more year with Bohemians, Morgan joined Cabinteely for the 2018 season and helped the south Dublin club to an eighth-place finish in the First Division.

The 21-year-old made seven appearances for Athlone in the First Division in 2019 but will now embark on a new career path in the United States.
