Striker Liam Nash leaves Cork City by mutual consent

Cork City manager John Caulfield has confirmed that striker Liam Nash has left the club by mutual consent.

The Englishman signed from English League One side Gillingham at the beginning of the season but has struggled for games behind Graham Cummins and Brighton & Hove Albion loanee James Tilley

The arrivals on loan of Dan Smith from Portsmouth and Matthew Gillam from Rochdale increased competition for places even more.

Nash played seven times in total for the Rebel Army, five times in the league, scoring twice and making two assists, and takes away a Munster Senior Cup winner’s medal from Turner’s Cross.

Both of the 23-year-old’s goals came in cup competitions: in the 3-1 Munster Senior Cup final win over Midleton and in the 4-1 EA Sports Cup triumph over Cobh Ramblers.

“Having spoken to Liam, we have now agreed that he will move on,” Caulfield told the club’s official website.

“Following our discussions, we agreed that this was in the best interests of all parties.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank him for his contribution to the club and he leaves with our best wishes for the future.”

Nash added: “I would like to thank everyone at Cork City for making me feel welcome in my time here and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
