Kevin Horgan makes return to Galway United

Galway United confirmed the signing of Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Kevin Horgan.

The goalkeeper returns to The Tribesmen after spending two seasons at Tallaght Stadium where he made 17 league appearances for The Hoops.

The brother of Republic of Ireland international Daryl, Cork City defender Colm and fellow Galway United player Christoper, joined United in 2015 from Salthill Devon and went on to captain their under-19 side that season.

Horgan made his senior debut at Eamonn Deacy Park against Saint Patrick’s Athletic in Galway’s final game of the 2015 season and went on to make six first team appearances for The Tribesmen in 2016 before making the move to Shamrock Rovers.

"When this opportunity came up, I pounced on it," the 21 year old told the club’s website

"I knew it was going to be a great opportunity for me after speaking to Alan. I'm coming home to play football, to play with Galway United, a big club. We're going to be really challenging this year and I want to be a part of it and I want to be playing.

"When speaking to Alan, I agreed with everything he said. When you look at the players that he's brought in and the attitude among the squad, it's certainly something that I wanted to be involved with.

"There are a lot of young players at the club, but there a lot of good experienced professionals there too with Iarfhlaith Davoren, Vinny Faherty, Marc Ludden and Stephen Walsh to name a few.

"Everyone is on board with helping and working with each other. Having those senior professionals is certainly going to help me as well. It's just great to be a part of it.

"It's encouraging to have such a good squad and really good competition. It will only help everyone, with younger players competing with the more experienced ones."



Horgan signs well in time for Galway United’s First Division opener against Shelbourne at Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday 22 February (kick off 7.45pm).
