Kevin O'Connor back on Leeside on loan

Ahead of the President’s Cup season opener Cork City have announced the return of Kevin O’Connor on loan from English Championship side Preston North End.

The 23-year-old joined the Leesiders in 2015 and won an FAI Cup winners medal with the club in 2016 before moving across the water mid-way through the 2017 season.

The Wexford native made a handful of appearances for Preston that year before spending the second half of the 2017/2018 season on loan with Fleetwood Town in League One.

He began the 2018/2019 campaign on loan in League Two with Crewe Alexandra and now finds himself reunited with manager John Caulfield in Cork.

“I’m happy; everybody knows how I feel about this club, so it is great to be back,” O’Connor told the City’s website.

“I’ve been in training with the lads, so I am looking forward to getting my head down, working hard and going again,”

“There are still a good few of the lads here from when I was here before, and the new lads seems bang on.

“It seems like a really good bunch and hopefully things will go well on the pitch.

“I want to get games, that is my main target, but we want to be challenging up around the top of the table as well.

“I am just hoping to come back, work hard and play as many games as possible.”

Cork City take on Dundalk in the President’s Cup at Turner’s Cross (kick-off 5.30pm) and the Leesiders are awaiting international clearance for O’Connor to be eligible to play in the game.
