Deasy signs for Premier Division bound Finn Harps

Newly promoted Finn Harps have announced the signing of former Drogheda United full-back Colm Deasy ahead of their return to the Premier Division in 2019.

Deasy, 21, joins the likes of Daniel O’Reilly and Sam Verdon who have both recently joined Harps from former First Division rivals, Longford Town.

Once of Southampton’s youth academy, Deasy returned home in 2015 to join St Patrick’s Athletic Under-19 side following his return home from the English South-Coast.

Following his spell at the Inchicore club, Deasy joined forces with Drogheda United where he would spend three years at United Park.

Whilst at the Boynesiders, Deasy won a dramatic promotion via the Playoffs in 2016, before relegation in 2017 as his rollercoaster spell at the club was complete following the Playoff Semi-Final defeat to Finn Harps in October.

Defensively, Deasy will provide Harps with a sound defensive footing to base themselves on as Ollie Horgan looks to keep the Co. Donegal side up in what will be another ultra-competitive division.

“Colm’s a young lad, still learning but he comes to with a plus of having two years’ experience of the Premier Division with Drogheda.” The much-loved Harps boss said.

“It’s another step in terms of the defensive side of things.

“Hopefully, his time in the Premier will be of benefit to us against the quality of the teams that will be facing in 2019.

“For, Colm personally it’s another chance to prove himself good enough to be a regular in a team at this level. We saw quite a bit of him last season at right-back including those two play-off games at the end of the season.” Horgan concluded.
