Jamie McGrath of Dundalk takes PFAI Young Player of the Year gong

Dundalk playmaker Jamie McGrath has been named Young Player of the Year for his role in the Lilywhites’ double-winning success.

The 21-year-old stepped in the number ten role vacated by Patrick McEleney at the beginning of the season and made the position his own, scoring twice along the way.

McGrath joined the Lilywhites at the beginning of the 2017 season after making his senior breakthrough with St Patricks’ Athletic.]

The Athboy, Co Meath native played schoolboy football with Athboy Celtic and Cherry Orchard before moving to the underage set-up at UCD in 2013.

After a short spell with the Students, he moved on to the Saints at the end of the year and made his breakthrough to the first team late in 2014.

His club manager Stephen Kenny was named Manager of the Year while teammate Michael Duffy took the Player of the Year award.

UCD boss Collie O’Neill was named First Division Manager of the Year and his captain Gary O’Neill took the division’s Player of the Year award.
