Shamrock Rovers' Ethan Boyle called up to Ireland under-21 squad ahead of crunch Euro qualifier with Germany

Shamrock Rovers defender Ethan Boyle is the latest player to be added to the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad ahead of Tuesday's crunch European qualifier with Germany in Tallaght.

The Wexford native has been in fine form for Rovers this season and will now have the opportunity to press for inclusion on his home ground as Ireland vie for top spot in Group 3.

Cork City defender Sean McLoughlin and Yeovil Town's Shaun Donnellan have also been called up for the game after Stoke City's Ryan Sweeney was ruled out with suspension.

Striker Ronan Curtis – who scored the equaliser during Friday's 1-1 draw away in Kosovo – also picked up a suspension for three yellow cards and has joined up with the senior squad in Poland.

Noel King's under-21s sit second in Group 5, two points behind group leaders Germany with three games each left to play.

A win will see Ireland top the group with away ties against Israel and Germany to come, and would guarantee at least a third-place finish.

Kick-off at Tallaght Stadium is 6pm.
