Former Derry City striker Ronan Curtis called up to the Irish senior squad

Former Derry City striker Ronan Curtis has been added to the Republic of Ireland senior squad ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Poland in Wroclaw.

22-year-old Curtis has been in fine form for Portsmouth this season, scoring five goals and assisting three for the League One side in six games since joining from Derry in July.

The Donegal native scored a fantastic solo effort to earn Ireland under-21s a point away to Kosovo on Friday but picked up a booking that will keep him out of Tuesday's meeting with Germany.

He has instead been promoted to the senior panel, which is somewhat light on strikers following the injury withdrawal of Shane Long, Jon Walters and Scott Hogan.

The FAI have also confirmed that Stephen Ward has returned to Burnley after picking up a foot injury in the 4-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to Wales on Thursday.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has also returned to his club after training with the squad in Dublin for the past two days.
