Former Cork City striker Achille Campion signs for St Patrick's Athletic

St Patrick's Athletic have confirmed the signing of former Cork City striker Achille Campion until the end of the season.

The French striker ended his time with the Rebel Army by mutual consent last month after spending the first half of the season on loan with Irish League side Linfield.

28-year-old Campion was mainly used as a bench option by City boss John Caulfield but was part of the side that won the league and FAI Cup in 2017.

Campion scored the equalising goal in extra time of the FAI Cup final against Dundalk in November, which City went on to win on penalties.

Campion joined City from Sligo Rovers, and also had stints in the United States, Sweden and in England with Port Vale before making the move to the Bit O' Red in 2016.

He had been expected to move to Spain for the next chapter in his career but was persuaded by Saints boss Liam Buckley to make the move to Inchicore.

“I was supposed to go to Spain but [Liam] convinced me to stay here and finish the season,” Campion told Pats' official website.

“I already knew about Liam and his philosophy of play and I think I will be the right fit. If I work hard, things will come my way, for sure.”

The striker will go straight into the Saints squad to face his former side Cork City at Turner's Cross on Sunday evening.
