Watch: Michal Kucharczyk's stunning strike sees Legia Warsaw past Cork City

Cork City face a monumental task if they're to progress to the second round of Champions League qualifying after they fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Legia Warsaw tonight.

City defended stoutly throughout and created some good chances of their own, with Barry McNamee ruing a bad early miss, but were undone by Michal Kucharczyk's moment of magic.

A moment of quick thinking from a free kick by Krzysztof Maczynski caught City unprepared, and presented Kucharczyk with acres of space to step into

And he did so with some style, striking the ball first time from all of 30 yards and his bending shot escaped the dive of Peter Cherrie and nestled in the corner of the net.

It was a rough turn of events for City boss John Caulfield, who had gotten the tactical battle right and restricted Legia, ironically, to shots from distance in spite of their greater possession.

The return leg takes place next Tuesday at the Legia Arena in Warsaw (kick-off 8pm).
