Cristiano Ronaldo joins Juventus from Real Madrid in 100 million-euro deal

Juventus will shortly complete the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid after the clubs agreed a €100 million transfer fee.

Real released a statement on Tuesday revealing they had reluctantly agreed to let their all-time top goalscorer join their European rivals “at the will and the request of the player.”

The 33-year-old joins the Old Lady after spending nine trophy-laden years in Madrid, during which time he's won two La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns.

The Portuguese has won the Ballon d'Or/FIFA Best Player five times, a record equalled only by Lionel Messi, and lifted the European Championships trophy as captain in 2016.

“I only have feelings of enormous gratitude for this club and for this city,” Ronaldo wrote in an open letter to Real Madrid fans.

“I have had nine absolutely wonderful years at the club. Real Madrid has conquered my heart, and that of my family.

“That is why more than ever I want to say thank you: thank you to the club, the president, the directors, my colleagues, all the staff, doctors, physios and incredible people that make everything work.”

He finished his letter by saying: “Thanks to everyone and, of course, as I said that first time in our stadium nine years ago: Hala Madrid!”

Real's statement read: “Today, Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude to a player who has proved to be the best in the world and who has marked one of the brightest times in the history of our club and world football.

“For Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo will always be one of his great symbols and a unique reference for the next generations.”



Ronaldo began his career in Lisbon with Sporting Clube de Portugal and, after attracting attention from all of Europe's top clubs, joined Manchester United in 2003.

The Madeira native spent six years at Old Trafford, winning three Premier Division titles and his first Champions League crown before making the switch to Spain.
