Bastien Héry and Stanley Aborah have bans reduced on appeal

Waterford have confirmed that midfielders Bastien Héry and Stanley Aborah have had bans for their part in a brawl at the end of the league win over Cork City reduced on appeal.

Héry was initial hit with a four-match suspension after being seen to push City boss John Caulfield, while Aborah was banned for six games for his part in the subsequent melée.

City players Garry Buckley and Steven Beattie were given shorter bans, while both Caulfield and Waterford manager Alan Reynolds were handed one-match touchline suspensions.

The club confirmed on Thursday evening that Héry's suspension had been reduced by one game to three, while Aborah's had been reduced by two to four games – two of which have been served.

No reason has been given by the FAI for the reduction, however a previous Waterford statement indicated the club had 'appealed the severity of the suspensions.”

Héry is now in line to return in time for the rematch with City in the EA Sports Cup on Monday, while Aborah will be eligible for the league game at home to Sligo Rovers the following Friday.

“Waterford FC can confirm that our submissions to the FAI Independent Appeals Committee as regards the suspensions handed down to Bastien Hery and Stanley Aborah have resulted in a partial reduction of the original bans

Héry’s suspension has been reduced to three games and Aborah’s to four games with the club welcoming the decision of the committee.

The club will be making no further comment on this issue.
