Experienced trio Dennehy, O'Sullivan and Kelly join Limerick

Limerick's preparations for the new season under Tommy Barrett continue with the signing of experienced trio Shaun Kelly, Billy Dennehy and Mark O'Sullivan.

Dennehy became the new Limerick manager's third signing since replacing Neil McDonald last week on Thursday night while O'Sullivan and Kelly were confirmed the following day.

The 30-year-old winger joins the club after spending the past two seasons with St Patrick's Athletic, while he's previously had spells with Cork City, Derry City and Shamrock Rovers.

Tralee native Dennehy brings huge experience to the club, having been part of the Rovers squad that reached the Europa League group stages, winning two titles along the way.

“It's been in the pipeline for a while now,” Dennehy told the club's media team.

“It's a hard league, especially going down to ten teams. It's going to be very competitive.

“All we can do now is get together as a group of players and work hard every day in training and push each other.

“Once you come in every day and you work hard, then the rest will look after itself and hopefully we can see where that takes us come the start of the year.”

34-year-old striker O'Sullivan joins following a year with Waterford, for whom he was top scorer with 12 goals as they sealed the First Division title.

He had spent the previous three seasons at his hometown club Cork City, winning an FAI Cup medal in 2016, having previously worked under John Caulfield at Avondale United.

Donegal native Kelly returns to the club for a third stint following a short spell with junior side Ballynanty United.

The 28-year-old first joined the Blues in 2011 from Galway United, and returned in 2015 following a year out with Derry City.
