Wes Hoolahan is bringing his Norwich City side to face Cobh in July

First Division promotion chasing Cobh Ramblers have lined up an exciting mid-season friendly match against English Championship outfit Norwich City.

The Football League club will face Ramblers at St. Colman’s Park on Wednesday July 5th, kick-off 7.30 p.m.

Cobh boss Stephen Henderson gave this reaction to CobhRamblers.ie. “We're thrilled to host a club as prestigious as Norwich City. It's a great opportunity for our supporters to watch international footballers up close in the tight confines of St Colman's Park.

"Our players will really enjoy the occasion and once again we feel the match against a team of this stature further endorses the huge strides Cobh Ramblers are making as a club."

After playing 15 of their 28 League matches, Ramblers currently lie in a challenging second place in the First Division table, just two points behind Waterford.

Norwich City finished their 2016/17 campaign in eighth place in the EFL Championship, ten points off a place in the play-offs. Last month, Norwich recently appointed a new manager in Daniel Farke, who moves to Carrow Road from Borussia Dortmund. The German spent the last six years as coach to the Dortmund reserve team.

Speaking at the announcement of the match, Ramblers committee member Ian Ryan added. "We're delighted to welcome Daniel Farke and his side to St Colman's Park and we're looking forward to playing them.”

"No doubt Stephen Henderson and the lads will give the Canaries a good game as they prepare for the start of the Championship season."

Norwich can count on five international players in their ranks. In addition to popular Irish playmaker Wes Hoolahan, Portuguese striker Nélson Oliveira links up with Scottish stars Steven Naismith, Graham Dorrans and Russel Martin.

The Ramblers encounter will be Daniel Farke’s first match in charge of Norwich who will be in Ireland for a five-day behind-closed-doors training camp in Ireland from Monday, July 3.
