US midfielder Heath looking forward to French clash

The US women’s national team (USWNT) are currently on a training tour in Europe and are set to face France on Sunday February 8th in Stade du Moustoir in Lorient, France.

This will be the USWNT opening game of their 10 game schedule that will lead into the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup which is set to take place this summer in Canada. The match will be a difficult game as the current World Number 2 is set to face the World number 3.

Speaking to US Soccer, midfielder Tobin Heath had the following to say “It’s been great been over here in Europe, especially in France where I played two seasons. I think we are really excited to get a really great International game against France being one of the best teams in the World.”

Heath played in Paris with Paris Saint Germaine for two seasons and had the following to say about competing against some old faces.

“I know many of the players, they are very technical. They are very tactical, they are smart and they know their football very well. I think it presents us with a challenge.”

The game is expected to draw a crowd of almost 14,000 on Sunday and will be live on both American and French television networks. Both sides will also be participating in the upcoming Algarve cup which is set to take place during March 4th – March 11th.

Following the match in France, the USWNT are set to travel to England where they will face the Lionesses on Friday February 13th in Stadium Mk in Milton Keynes. It was also recently announced the USWNT will face the Republic of Ireland later this year on May 10th in Avaya Stadium, San Jose ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Republic of Ireland manager Sue Ronan had the following to say about the game.

“It’s a great game for us as part of our preparations for the Euro 2017 campaign. They are currently preparing for this summer’s World Cup and will be going into that tournament as one of the favourites so it is another excellent test for us and it will be a very good experience for our young players.”
