Shamrock Rovers sign Eamon Zayed

Shamrock Rovers have announced the signing of striker, Eamon Zayed on an 18 month contract until the end of the 2014 season.

Libyan international Zayed was a free agent before signing for the Tallaght side, having recently left Iranian Pro League side Aluminium Hormozgan.

The Dubliner will be well-known to many League of Ireland fans having previously played in the league for many years. He began his career in 2002 with Bray Wanderers where he averaged just over a goal every two games in his four seasons there.

The 29-year-old went on to play for Drogheda United, Sporting Fingal and Derry City before making the switch to Iran and Tehran side, Persepolis where he scored a hat-trick in the last ten minutes of his debut match having come on as a substitute.

He was the Airtricity League Top Goalscorer in 2011, scoring 23 goals for Derry City. His efforts also earned him the PFAI Player of the Year award that season.

Zayed was capped 12 times at under 21 level for the Republic of Ireland before he made his senior debut for Libya and subsequently went on to win four caps for the north African outfit.
